Nolasco's Farm
Sergio Nolasco
All vegetables, herbs, and melons for the Journal Square CSA are grown at Nolasco's Farm in Andover, NJ. Sergio Nolasco and his wife Paz are from Mexico and are part of the New Farmer Development Project of GrowNYC.
Although the farm is not certified organic, they use organic farming methods whenever possible. The farmer currently purchases about half of his seeds from an organic supplier, and about half of the fertilizer used on the farm is organic. No conventional pesticides or herbicides are ever sprayed on the crops. These practices are an effort to balance sustainable practices, risk, and cost-effectiveness.
They grow an incredible variety of produce, including hard to find Mexican peppers and herbs. All in all, between 55-60 varieties of vegetables, melons, and herbs are grown on the 45 acre farm. Nolasco's Farm is only 50 miles west of Jersey City, so you will get the freshest vegetables every week. Check out pictures below of our spring and summer visits to the farm.
Nolacso's Farm also grows for the South Bronx CSA and the Hell's Kitchen CSA.
You can find Nolasco's Farm at the following Greenmarkets in NYC from June through mid-November:
Tuesdays, Poe Park, Bronx
Tuesdays, Fort Washington, Manhattan
Thursdays, 175th St, Manhattan
Saturdays, Inwood, Manhattan
Saturdays, Sunnyside, Queens
Sundays, Jackson Heights, Queens
Sundays, Windsor Terrace-PS 154, Brooklyn

More about Tree-Licious Orchards
At Tree-Licious, we are keeping a family tradition of farming alive for its 7th generation. Located in western New Jersey, in the heart of Warren County, alongside a stop on the old Morris Canal, our 130-acre orchard produces many varieties of fruit, both heritage varieties and new hybrids. Ed and Carol Kesler purchased this working farm back in the 1980s as a place to raise both a family and the proper food to feed them.
The well-drained hillsides are perfect for fruit trees, and they reminded Ed of his childhood home in West Virginia “hollers.” Carol got a chance to bring her childhood memories to life when she opened Just Made Bakery in October 1997 and started using the recipes with which she grew up.
The family tradition continues, with son James managing the day-to-day farm operations, greeting and guiding the “pick-your-own” visitors, and spreading the word about good, local food.
We strive to bring the most current methods of low-impact farming, like integrated pest management, to the task of preserving the best-tasting traditional varieties of apples, peaches, plums, pears, apricots, and cherries. We celebrated our 25th year of farming in 2009, and we are looking forward to a growing future.
Each week we will be at Farm Markets in New Jersey and in New York. See the below schedule to find a farm market near you!
